Xenos Biology 1.01

A good friend and one of my oldest gaming buddies, who I unfortunately don't see as often as I would like, paid a visit the other day. With him he brought a bunch of beautifully painted nids from Space Hulk.
Last time he visited we played a game, and decided to paint up the minis. He would, as he has an entire superbly painted nid army, paint the nids - and I was to paint the termies. Well I guess we can agree, you haven't seen many termies here, so that much for my end of the bargain. Luckily he faired much better. The nids have been painted in the colors of his army, and they do look really cool. Check out some more pictures of his minis here: Gallery with Nids and other cool things

Will they just be for Space Hulk - or are we looking at some Magus' forbitten biology project? Release the Hounds................

Game night

I had one of my rather rare games of 40K last night - actually my first game with the 6ed. rules. Also my first game with my AdMech force. Liked how the new rules worked, though there was a lot to keep track of with both a new rulebook and a new codex. The enemy was CSM. Also liked how the force performed in battle, lot more durable than I anticipated, and again some units fell much more easy than I expected. All in all it seemed pretty well balanced, so now it's just a question of getting some experience and figure out the best combo of troops. The game ended in draw btw.

Think the battlefield works pretty well too, need to finish the last couple of terrain pieces I've already bought, and then add a bit more 3D.

Cityblocks

A while ago I made a couple of "blocks" to add some depth to our battlefield. Only basic shapes, but I had a few ideas on how to improve them, make them more colorful and interesting. The biggest one had warped some in the drying process and I also needed to correct that. With some - I mean it was all about right for a spacemarine skatepark. I made a cut down the middle, straightened it out as good as I could and filled the gap with PVA glue. I then added some support on the sides in the form of a couple of panels and hid the cut with some rusted metal. Looks quite good, and it did take care of the worst of the warping. Not quite there yet, but that will have to do for now.

A Bridge too Far

Been working on a Tecnobridge from Pegasus Hobbies for the last couple of days. Really need to play more games, as it seem my productivity goes up several levels everytime a game night is approaching.
As the last couple of terrain pieces, I've been experimenting with different weathering techniques - rust in so many ways.......
Brilliant model by the way, easy to assemble and only a few mouldlines. When I bought it I also got a small Gothic building, looking forward to put that together too.

First Dabs of Paint

Well not much to add really just a PIP picture.

Water Purification Tower

A bit more terrain done. Water coolers, Air purification, Power Station - don't really know. Love the Pieces though and spend way too much time on them. They will look good on the battlefield though and add a bit of color. They might also be a good objective. Cannot remember who the manufacturer is?

Basecolored: GW Averland Sunset

Drybrushed: GW Kommando Khaki

Sponged: GW Skavenblight Dinge

Metals painted and metal chipping added to some of the sponged areas:

Rust added:

Wash of thinned brow pigment:

Storage Tank

I have had this tank from Ziterdes in my scenery box for some time and wanted to give it a bit of bling and hopefully I'll have a game of something within the next two weeks, so I figured I'd bling it up now, as well as start on some other terrain. And I've also started painting The Omniscion.

Before: Painted grey from the manufacturer.

And after roughly one hour later:

Pretty good result for such a short time I think. That's some thing that can really make you want to paint some more terrain up ASAP - adds so much to the battlefield.

Lured into the Abyss

Ohh - the perils of the plastic abyss have once again lured a gamer into a new project. I have recently discovered the game of IquisiMunda and though I might never play it, the conversion possibilities are just to good to pass on. A gothic John Blanche world with religious nutters - I'll take two please.
Hence I have decided to expand my blog with a couple of pages. I have, of cause, dedicated one to Inquisimunda, but also one to nurgle as I've always wanted to paint up some of those minis, and with the fresh CSM and Deamons out, it would be a shame not to - at least at some point. The last page added is a Gallery, where I'll post pictures of painted minis, old and new, not for any particular reason - just because.
I'll post a reference here on the Home page once in a while, when something interesting turns up, but mainly I'll try to keep it a Mechanicus zone.

Cheers

The Arrival

The Omniscion is almost there now, a few more cables will be needed, but I'll have to wait for some procreate to dry before they can be attached. The wings are blue tacked, so the position may be subject to change.
I normally paint my models in one piece, but this one is rather large, so I'm going to leave at least one arm and the wings off - perhaps also the backpack, the jury is still out on that one.

Really pleased with the way he has turned out. Big evil and menacing, just the way I wanted.

Wings and Hoovers

Been trying to come up with a usable design for the wing/backmount - and I've been through several different test-pieces  I didn't really want to ditch the original top part, as I really like the long exhausts protruding above the model's head, adds to the somewhat archaic feel I'd like to give the model. It was quite small though, and I also wanted something with cables and primitive reactor look. Luckily it was cleaning day at The Scions' workshop, and the cleaning lady's hoover was just what he needed. So with the small addition of a fission core, the old hoover turned into the perfect powerplant.

Powering Up

Got some heavy firepower wired up, as well as tacked the arms - he's going to look the part!

Privates

Done with the plumbing, bar one little detail which will be added once the rest is painted. Pretty happy with the look so far, I hink he looks rather twisted - which on this mini is a good thing. Progress on the arms as well, perhaps a blue tacked version will be viewable soon.
