Final details

Added a few patches of moss and a bit of dead grass, and though really subtle I think it works quite well.

Terrain prototype

Think I got my terrain prototype down. I only forgot that I wanted to add a few bits of dead grass and mold on the base and building. At first that would not be really appropriate for an Industrial Gothic sector, but as I constantly see how grasses are taking over as soon as buildings or areas are left unused, I think it will fit in and look good too.

Storage tank

Just before the game the other night I had a bit of time to finish off the storage tank for my manufactorum. After it was painted to look dirty I gave the velding lines a brownish wash added some dark brown spots and painted metal bits rusted. Then using a Vallejo rust wash added stripes of rust running down the sides, emphasized the brown spots and underside of the velding lines. The I added some vallejo liquid mask and painted the omega logo in that area. After the red paint was dry I carefully removed the mask with a finger and it yielded a pretty cool chipped appearance.

Cityblocks

A while ago I made a couple of "blocks" to add some depth to our battlefield. Only basic shapes, but I had a few ideas on how to improve them, make them more colorful and interesting. The biggest one had warped some in the drying process and I also needed to correct that. With some - I mean it was all about right for a spacemarine skatepark. I made a cut down the middle, straightened it out as good as I could and filled the gap with PVA glue. I then added some support on the sides in the form of a couple of panels and hid the cut with some rusted metal. Looks quite good, and it did take care of the worst of the warping. Not quite there yet, but that will have to do for now.

A bit of paint

Actually got some paint slapped on one of my planned buildings. The GW Manufactorum - pretty sweet building actually. First one of the GW terrain kits I've build, and I think they have done quite a good job. Loads of detail, easy to clean up and fits fine together. Going for a battered industrial look of greys, rust and metals - spiced up with a few strong/spot colors.

Rats!

City terrain

Got a good way on the road to finishing my modular city terrain, at least the main building blocks. I think it works really good, adding a good 3D sense to the gaming board - something I always enjoyed, blame it on my many years of playing Mordheim. The longest one has warped ever so slightly, but enough to be an annoyance, so I'll have to figure out what to do, perhaps I'll just cut it in two. I'm planning on adding little pieces of detail to make it more interesting looking. A couple of fans, metal edges, drains, tubes etc. The pieces was tried out for battle last night, and they worked fine there as well. We might set  up a little differently next time with a few more open spaces and the terrain in more levels, leaving a bit more open ground for vehicle movement.

The Rats! part

I got creamed - completely and utterly creamed; 38 to 13 victory points.

Made a stupid mistake and kept some units in reserve I shouldn't have, which meant the two CSM landraiders and obliterators (those will forever be my most hated unit - EVER!!!)  had way too few targets to concentrate on and I had too little fire power to take them down. I think that kind of cost me the game right from the start.
Anyway - we tried out the "leaked test version" of the 6th. ed. And I must say I'm not disappointed, really made up for some gory fast paced action. Taking into account that we had to look up almost every thing and probably did forget a lot of little rules - 1500 a side took us about four hours.
If this is close to the 6th. ed. rules I think the game will be more personalized, kind of you can kit out you troops for certain battlefield roles better and personalize your army - it will more than just standard blocks of the same troops. To me it sounds like fun.

"Modular" city terrain

As you can see in the pics in the previous post I've made some small terrain/elevated city pieces. Quite simple to make from normal polystyren covered with a paper-like gaming "mat". They were quite fast to make, so I decided to make a few more. Being an old Mordheim player I love when the battlefield is as much 3D as possible. The parts can of cause go on top of - or next to each other. Little bits of detail will be added, like corners, drains and what ever I can come up with. Hopefully the last ones will be done later today and I'll get some pics up. After having the last game, I've really only been in terrain mode, having cleaned up a few building set I had laying around and ordering even more things for terrain building. Seems side-tracking is not a thing of the past. Just adds so much to the games when your table is set properly. So I guess the next few post will terrain orientated.
