AdMech Rangers Finished

Really like how these turned out, the brown coat gamble paid off big time I think, really adding a lot of character to the minis. Have to say again that I'm truely impressed by the minis them selves - one of GW best in my book.

Sneakpeek on the finished Rangers

Finished the Rangers last night - though I need to get some good photos taken, I could resist showing them off now.

Regulators

The Rangers are getting there, really like the way they are going. I can't help thinking old western dusters. Sergio ex Machina.

Different Mechanicus Rangers

As I see it "a ranger" is a somewhat sneaky git lurking in the shadows sniping at the enemy and destroying their bits without being seen. Thus I have a hard time seeing them in red robes like the way GW paint them up. I also wanted them to be different from the all the other armies out there, hence this will be the color scheeme.

Ranger metals

Bar a bit of weathering the metal on the rangers are done now. The rest will be done fast I think.

Mechanicus Ranger armour

For the rangers I wanted muted, dirty colors - like the good old rangers of elves and Middle Earth. Hence I wanted to loose the shiny bronze armour of the vanguard and the reds of others, these guys aren't meant to be seen imposing on the battlefield. So I decided to try out something new, worked pretty well I think.

Base color is a 2:1 mix of VMC leather brown and VMA olive drab.

Next is a medium heavy drybrush of leadbelcher from GW.

A wash of GW Nuln Oil

Then a wash of GW Agrax Earthshade folowed by a wery light drybrush of GW leadbealcher

More Skitarii Rangers

As I said before - I really like these models. Extremely characterful. Comms expert and Alpha dog. For some reason I see the Alpha's posture as an old swashbuckler - raised flintlock and peg-leg!

Mechanicus skitarii ranger

Painting is still underway on the vanguard, but I did get a useful pic today. Instead here is the first of my rangers. Not much conversion work on this one - just the foolish looking tip of the barrel. I really like these minis so for once it doesn't bother me not to convert much. Painting style will be really ranger like - in a brownish kind of way.
