Mechanicus Hypaspist PIP 3

Got the red finished last night and, perhaps a bit premature, started on the detailing - just couldn't wait to see what some of the detail would add to the mini, not unhappy with the result. I'm planning a bit of decor on some of those large red surfaces as well, and then we need some contrasting lenses, a bit of color on the cables and the base of cause.

  1. A nice turquoise blue would look great for the lenses as a contrasting colour. Also, looking forward to seeing what you do with the armour, as it looks a bit flat and unfinished right now.

  2. Cheers, yes I might use a bluish color for the lenses, would also be in line with several of the other minis in the army. I was also thinking green as is has been used a my general spotcolor.
Only one thing is getting red to look really good, that is photographing red :)
The armor actually has 6 different shades of red, so I assure you it is more vibrant IRL, if you enlargen the photos you can see the right shades a few places. There will be added detail to the armor though.

    1. While green is indeed a good spot colour, I find that it clashes too much with red and so would humbly suggest that you go with a more blue-ish colour.

I've had a look at the enlarged photos and I can indeed see that there's more depth to the red than I first thought. However, if I may suggest an improvement, it would be to add some brown wash/diluted paint to the crevices of the armour. It would help the armour "pop" more and would add some needed depth. Just a suggestion though, so do what you will with it :)

    2. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. Come to think of it I actually used to add a thin line of dark wash in the recesses, a step I have forgotten here. I'll hurry in and add than, thanks for the reminder.

  4. Really enjoying these posts. Been thinking about doing something similar with my Scions by adding some Kromlech Greatcoat Legs for an Inquisitional Killteam. Of course I'm the world's most distractable man so I keep getting sidetracked with Heresy era Alpha Legion and Forgeworld's new rules...

    1. Cheers. Go ahead those scions just lend them selves to converting don't they?

  5. Very nice Manus - the conversion really changes the model into a mechanicvm servant.

The black robe might perhaps need a drybrush or two of grey. It looks very primerblack at the moment...

  6. Thanks Jeff. I see what you mean about the black. I thought some edge highlight would be enough, but I think I'll play around with some subtle drybrush on the next one.

  8. Awesome! Bought me some robed legs so I can do something similar, what do you use for the groin armor?

    1. Thanks a lot. The groin armour is made from white plastic strips, 5 mm wide I think.
